Last Valentine’s Day we helped you come up with a few ideas to express your love on this special day. This year Stanley Homes, Premier Home Builder, was thinking we should help be your source when picking out the color roses you decide to buy for that special someone on Saturday. We didn’t realize there were so many different meanings!
The history of giving your loved one Valentine’s Day flowers comes from the old-fashioned custom of sending floral bouquets to pass on non-verbal messages. Introduced in the 18th century by Charles II of Sweden, each flower had a specific meaning attached to it, making it possible to have an entire conversation using only flowers. Today, people continue to send flowers on special occasions or to express sentiments of love and admiration.
A Red rose is an unmistakable expression of love. A dozen red roses is said to express unconditional devotion, respect and love which is what makes it the most commonly used rose for Valentine’s Day.
White is the color of purity, chastity and innocence. This color rose would be perfect for a freshly blossoming love. It’s also used in wedding ceremonies for brides.
Yellow roses are an expression of friendship and caring. The yellow rose, like the other roses, does not carry an undertone of romance. It indicates purely platonic emotions.
Pink roses are used to convey gentle emotions such as admiration, joy and gratitude.
An Orange rose reminds us of a fiery blaze. These fiery blooms signify passion and energy. Orange roses can be used to express intense desire, pride and fervor. They also convey a sense of fascination. These flowers rival only the red roses as messengers of passion in romance.
Lavender rose colors convey enchantment. It also expresses “love at first sight”.
Many florist also have plenty of daisies in stock to help you with the “they love me, they love me not” game so don’t be afraid to send a flower to someone to show your appreciation even if there isn’t a romance brewing!
