For most of us, summer may seem to be the best time to paint your house because the weather is warm and the paint dries up quickly. But did you know that fall is an even better season to paint your home? Perhaps no, like many other homeowners.
We all look for ways to make our home cozy for the fall and winter. Fall has the best weather conditions with minimal changes in temperature and rain supporting the task. Painting your house during fall ensures that the paint is layered seamlessly and dried properly.
There are, however, certain precautions to take while painting your home during fall. To make your fall home painting project successful, here are a few tips you should follow for sure:
Make sure the temperature is more than 50° F
Painting jobs have a correlation with the temperature because the material of the paint is temperature- sensitive. Some paints, especially the ones for exterior application, require a minimum temperature to dry and settle. Usually, the minimum temperature for exterior paints is marked at 50° F. There are, however, 100 percent acrylic paints that can be applied even in a low temperature of 35º F.
Choose the best time slot
While a significant part of the painting job depends on the convenience of both the homeowner and contractor, you should try doing the job during specific hours of the day. It’s a general thumb rule that painting jobs should be done between 10 am and 3 pm because of weather, temperature and lighting conditions.
Start with the sunny side
If you want to get the best results from your painting project, following the sun shouldn’t be a bad idea. If you have a convenient slot, try starting the painting job from the sunny side of the house. This will help the paint to dry and cure faster. Follow the direction of the sun to ensure you finish the job with perfection.
Keep a check on dew points
Last but not the least, you should keep a check on the temperature at which moisture from the paint will undergo condensation on the surface. You should ensure that the temperature of the surface is higher than the dew point by a minimum 5°. Make sure you clean the surface before applying a coating of paint. If dew starts forming on an uncured surface, you are likely to see water spotting and leaching, especially if the paint color is dark.
